Auburn lost one of its unsigned 2021 commits on Christmas morning.

Three-star defensive back Phillip O’Brien Jr., who had been committed to Auburn since Feb. 1, decommitted from the Tigers and flipped his commitment to Pitt. O’Brien announced his decision on Twitter.

A 6-foot, 169-pounder out of Deerfield Beach, Fla., O’Brien is rated as the 40th-best safety in the 2021 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is the No. 532 overall prospect in the nation and the 78th-ranked player in the state of Florida.

O’Brien was one of three Auburn commitments who did not sign with the Tigers during the early signing period, along with fellow 2021 prospect Tar’varish Dawson and graduate transfer offensive lineman Eric Wilson.
