Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton five-star defensive end Lebbeus Overton tells 247Sports that Clemson has offered. He is the Top247’s No. 1 prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle.
The Tigers have always been a top contender in this recruitment alongside the likes of Alabama, Georgia and Texas A&M. Other schools prominently in the mix include Oklahoma, USC, Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame.
Overton has been to Clemson in the past for a game. Earlier this spring his mother Eunice Thomas told 247Sports they aim to get back in July.
The 6-foot-4 1/2, 265-pound Overton has spoken highly of the ACC powerhouse in the past.
“I mean their program is outstanding,” he said at the Atlanta Under Armour Regional in the spring. “The atmosphere is amazing. When I took a visit there it was unbelievable. I’m close with the coaching staff too.”
Overton’s connection there is with Todd Bates.
“The players are cool,” Overton said. “I know a lot of players there. It’s interesting.”
Overton emerged on the scene as a ninth grader at Bessemer (Ala.) Academy where he racked up 105 tackles including 42 for loss, 19 sacks and 13 more quarterback hurries. A family move saw him transfer to Milton for the sophomore campaign where he posted 70 tackles with those 21.5 sacks and six forced fumbles.
Overton is a terrific student who maintains a 4.0 GPA and also shines on the basketball court.
