Needless to say, Texas hasn’t played quality football this season. After opening the season ranked within the top-10 in nearly every major poll, the Longhorns suffered back-to-back conference losses to unranked teams.
For better or for worse, Tom Herman’s squad has provided a few of the most thrilling games of this short college football season; therefore, it’s no surprise that Texas was mentioned as the game of the year. Although Texas’ miraculous overtime victory over Texas Tech is certainly worthy of consideration, Erick Smith chose the Red River Rivalry as the game of the year.
The worst award to be mentioned among on this particular list was for the biggest disappointment. Other categories included best player, best freshman, coach of the year, best defender, biggest surprise, etc. Although Texas wasn’t mentioned as the clear disappointment all by their lonesome, they’re certainly a major cause of the Big 12’s drop off this year.
