With the Fourth of July just around the corner and several summer events already called off for the season, many northern Michiganders may be wondering if annual firework shows in their community are still happening.

UpNorthLive has put together a list of Fourth of July events that are still taking place in the Northern Lower.

Alpena is hosting a fireworks show on July 4, but there will not be a parade this year.


Curtis is holding its 47th Annual Independence Day Celebration on Sunday, July 5. A parade will kick off events at 12:30 p.m. with fireworks at dusk.


Ellsworth St. Clair Lake Fireworks will take place Friday, July 3.

Fife Lake:

The Fife Lake fireworks will kick off with music on the Fourth, then the firework show will start at dusk. Pick-A-Ticket Raffle tickets can be purchased at the space between Dairy Queen and the Fife Lake Inn. The Fife Lake Chamber of Commerce said social distancing and face masks will be strongly recommended in busy downtown areas.

Indian River:

The Burt Lake firework display has been moved from Veterans Pier at DeVoe Beach out onto the lake as a precaution against overcrowding the beach property while providing many more viewing locations around Burt Lake.

The show begins just after dusk on Saturday, July 4. The event is weather dependent and the make-up date is July 5.
