Ohio State football transfer Lejond Cavasos is making the rounds as he looks at his options in the NCAA transfer portal. Cavasos has taken his official visit to Colorado, and he is also slated to visit North Carolina, per Chris Hummer of 247Sports.

Cavazos was a four-star recruit and the No. 26 player in the 2020 signing class, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings. Last fall, Cavazos saw the field in a very limited role for Ohio State. In the 2021 season, Cavazos totaled seven tackles and defended two passes. Cavazos has had trouble climbing the depth chart on a loaded Ohio State roster, so he has decided to pursue opportunities at other college football programs.

North Carolina basketball star Armando Bacot has already been recruiting Cavasos to the Tar Heels. Bacot and Cavasos both attended IMG Academy in high school, and the two developed a relationship there. After Bacot announced his return for the 2022-23 season, he immediately tweeted at Cavasos about making a move to Chapel Hill.

In his post-spring press conference, North Carolina head coach Mack Brown made it clear that the program is looking to dip into the transfer portal this summer. Brown noted that any player they take will need to fit right in with the rest of the team, but the team will do its homework on every player on the transfer market.

“We are looking aggressively at the portal,” Brown said. “I mean, every guy that goes into the portal, we look at him. He has to be a perfect fit academically. He has to be a perfect fit with his character and socially, and we don’t want to bring someone in that’s not starting.”

247Sports currently ranks Cavasos as the No. 18 safety in the transfer portal for the 2022 cycle, and he is not the only Buckeyes defensive back looking to transfer. Bryson Shaw, a former three-star recruit, has also entered the NCAA transfer portal this offseason.
