The race to the 2021 SEC Championship Gme is going to be a great one. Georgia is favored to win the East division while Alabama is favored to win the West, but it’s a matchup everyone wants to see on the first Saturday in December in Atlanta.

There is already plenty of debate and predictions as to how this matchup will go, but one person in particular made a surprising prediction on ESPN’s College Football Playoff Top 25 Rankings Show. Former Georgia linebacker and College GameDay analyst David Pollack says he sees Alabama winning that matchup and the two later meeting in the national championship game.

“I might be sticking a little to preseason, but I do think Alabama can beat Georgia,” Pollack said. “I think Bryce Young, again another guy that’s ascending, you can tell man he’s playing great; the balance on offense, his ability to buy time, make plays… . Georgia’s maybe offense may be catching up, still getting better, still improving I like it. But I think SEC championship, I think Bama wins that one. And I think that they repeat and play each other for the natty. But I think Bama wins in the SEC championship.”

Georgia (7-0) is undefeated, while Alabama (6-1) saw its only loss this season come at the hands of Texas A&M in College Station.

Alabama will have a bye before it hosts LSU on Nov. 6, while Georgia will take on Florida in Jacksonville this weekend. A big question for a potential SEC Championship game would be the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. Stetson Bennett has started the last four and five of the last six, but preseason Hiesman candidate JT Daniels appears close to getting healthy. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was asked about the progression of Daniels Tuesday while speaking with the media,

“I think you can get between the 1 and 2 reps, you can get plenty of reps for two quarterbacks. Our 1s get a little more than our 2s,” Smart explained. “You can go 50-50, you can go 70-30, 60-40. We prescribe that as the week goes on.

“Carson Beck is taking less reps this week because JT is making more reps. The combination of Stetson and JT to get them both prepared because they’re our two quarterbacks right now.

“He’s looked good. He’s done a good job. I would be remiss if I could tell you everything he did today. That’s why when I hang up this call, I go in and watch it and see it visually with my eyes because a lot of times in practice I’m watching it from a defensive perspective. Then at night, I watch it from a quarterback perspective. I also talk to Coach Monken and the offensive staff about it. He’s done a good job. I wouldn’t say that there’s been a lot of limitations. It doesn’t seem like there’s been limitations in terms of what he can and can’t do.”
