Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for Spider-Man: No Way Home
The official script for Spider-Man: No Way Home confirms the film features a subtle callback to Thor: Ragnarok. As No Way Home continues to top the box office, Marvel Studios and Sony have decided to drop the film’s full script online. Written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home wraps up director Jon Watts’ Homecoming trilogy and further explores the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ever-evolving multiverse concept.
Enough time has seemingly passed since the theatrical release of No Way Home to warrant the film’s script being released online. Besides allowing audiences to relive the blockbuster’s biggest moments by reading it, the script offers insight into key moments, including the spell scene, which featured the same relic from Ragnarok. Check out the confirmation of said Easter Egg in the excerpt from page 42 below:
While searching for Odin in Ragnarok, the God of Thunder and his trickster brother end up at the Sanctum Sanctorum. There, Strange questions Thor as to why he would bring a threat like Loki back to Earth. During the conversation, Thor rhetorically asks “so Earth has wizards now?” while fiddling with a relic, which then spills into many pieces on the table—the same relic that falls apart in No Way Home. This Easter egg is just one of many MCU callbacks in No Way Home. From Tony Stark’s Dum-E robot in Happy Hogan apartment to Homecoming’s Liz Toomes being featured on the cover of a magazine criticizing Peter, No Way Home’s attention to detail is impressive.
Spider-Man: No Way Home’s ending, which sees the entire universe forget Peter Parker is Spider-Man, effectively removes the web-slinger from the MCU. It’s unknown if and when he’ll appear on screen with his fellow Avengers – if he even still is an Avenger – in future films. While no future Spider-Man films have been officially announced, Sony producer Amy Pascal has revealed a story for Spider-Man 4 is in development. As for Thor and Strange, the latter will be appearing next in this year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the former will return in Thor: Love and Thunder.
