The Bills took advantage of an unfamiliar opportunity Sunday, after enduring two decades of the New England Patriots’ dominance in the AFC East. Coming into the game, the Patriots had lost two in a row, Cam Newton and their offense was struggling and they were dealing with quite a few critical injuries.

While the Patriots didn’t go away quickly, the Bills continued to chip away and defeated the Patriots 24-21. The win was Sean McDermott’s first over the Patriots as Bills head coach. Buffalo moved to 6-2 and 3.5 games ahead of New England in the division, making the Bills the favorites to win the AFC East title for the first time since 1995.
